Every year at the end of April and the beginning of May, the Memorial sums up the results of the school competition "A Man in History". Tens of thousands of young people researched the fates of their relatives and acquaintances, the history of their towns and villages, in order to understand what the twentieth century in Russia was like. In 2022, the Memorial was forced to suspend the school contest due to the liquidation of the International Memorial.
But the archive of the contest is unique, preserving the personal memories of people from the most diverse regions.
It is obvious that many of the memories are dedicated to the Second World War. Here are some fragments from the archived essays of the school competition.
